Summer is here!
At last, the Olympics is on its way out, the Euro's are done and after such a long spell I am hoping we will see some glorious weather through the later summer and autumn.
Rutland is stunning at the moment, the combination of lots of moisture in the soil and glorious sunshine is going to make for some fabulous later summer and Autumn gardens. Barnsdale Gardens, the home of Geoff Hamilton’s gardeners world TV garden is well worth a visit in late summer.
As we get in to autumn the sculpture and water garden at Burghley House is resplendent, nestled in old trees on the edge of “Capability” Browns’ famous lake, it is a magical combination of art, landscape and horticulture. It never disappoints and with about 20% of the art being new every year it is a wonderful combination of old favourites and fabulous surprises.
We have availability in The Stables from 8- 12 September and 3rd October onwards
You can check if your preferred dates are available here
The Hay Barn
Is coming along! We will be open from 2nd October, and dates are available to book via the website, now we have a floor it has a real sense of the space, and I think we may have built a one bedroomed cathedral, the ceilings are high, the light is wonderful and the view on 3 sides and above beats any stained glass window I have ever seen. Below is a quick walk through video from earlier in the week. Progress on the “last leg” should be fairly rapid with decorators, plumbers, tilers, carpenters, floor fitters and curtain fitters all booked over the next 5 weeks. The finish will be even better than the Tack Room, which with the additional space will offer our highest quality property for your holiday. You can check if your autumn break dates are available here.
On the farm…
The reason for the silence over the past couple of months has been a combination of the growing season and The Hay Barn soaking up capacity. The growing season always seems to come to an abrupt halt and before we know it, harvest is here. After a terribly wet winter and spring without much sunshine, the crops are not doing well. We are short of both volume due to poor root structures and protein due to lack of sunshine. The great thing about farming is that we get to have another stab at it next year, and it throws up summer evenings like the one in the photo below, which really are the very best part of the job.
As ever we have Beef and Lamb available from the shop for your BBQ, so do contact Sue if you would like anything on 07803 000465.
